Two of the founders of support group Brain Injury is BIG, Judy Taylor and Lois Redman, are taking on the Thames Path Challenge together with Sally Dunscombe, founder of the Brain Injury Group network.

Collectively known as The BIG Ladies, the trio are hoping to raise funds to support the ongoing work of Brain Injury is BIG, a charity that helps families with loved ones who have suffered severe brain injuries resulting in disorders of consciousness. In addition to personal experience informing invaluable support ad advice, Brain Injury is BIG can also help with the purchase of specialised equipment for long term care facilities.

The charity was founded in 2011 by five ladies who met through the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability where their husbands or sons were treated following devastating brain injuries. They put their personal experience to good use to offer support to families in similar circumstances and provide an online forum and a telephone helpline as well as practical support.

The Brain Injury Group network was launched the same year to provide anyone affected by brain injury with access to specialist legal, financial and welfare services delivered by proven experts in the field and has worked with Brain Injury is BIG for several years.

“We’ve become firm friends, both personally and corporately,” says Sally Dunscombe, director of the Brain Injury Group. “There is a great deal of common ground between the two organisations, and our member firms have provided a lot of support through sponsorship, our own charity golf days and through commercial arrangements. The BIG Ladies impress everyone they meet with the energy they put into helping others. I’m always happy to pitch in and raise awareness of brain injury, and I hope that plenty of people will offer their backing by sponsoring us; any money raised will be used to make sure that Brain Injury is BIG is there for all those people needing help.

The walk takes place on Sunday 12 September 2015. The BIG Ladies plan to walk 25km and hope to raise at least £500. If you can offer your support, are able to support their efforts, please go to this Virgin Money Giving page.
