This year’s Road Safety Week (23-29 November 2015) is all about driving less and living more. The idea is to reduce the number of car journeys in order to improve road safety and the environment. And to celebrate this idea, the Brain Injury Group is asking local school children for their favourite wacky ways to get to school.
A range of ideas has been suggested – from a magic carpet to an elephant, a solar-powered hover board to a zip wire. Youngsters will be asked which would be their favourite and to draw themselves travelling to school this way, or to suggest their own wacky idea. Extra credit will be given to children who remember safety aspects such as helmets, knee pads, reflective clothing and lights!
“Road Safety Week has a very serious message about keeping everyone safe on the roads and part of this is making children aware of their surroundings and their behaviour when going to and from school,” says Sally Dunscombe, founder and director of the Brain Injury Group. “Our members all work with families of children who have suffered a brain injury, many the result of a road traffic incident. Our wacky ways competition is designed to engage the children’s interest in the topic and spark their imagination, while also emphasising the importance of safety too.”
The Brain Injury Group is a national network of specialist brain injury lawyers and support services. Member firms from around the country are supporting the campaign and working with local schools. They will be helping to judge the competition entries in each class and awarding prizes for the best ideas. The winning entry in each class will receive a £10 voucher, and there will be a shared prize for the class that comes up with the wackiest idea of all. In addition, every child taking part will receive a reflective gift to help them be seen and be safe on the roads.
