The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is inviting comments from relevant parties and stakeholders about its proposed changes in policy regarding brain injury detection by GPs and hospitals. The deadline for interested parties to register as a stakeholder and share their views is Friday 4 October, and the Brain Injury Group welcome the proposals as well as urging people to voice their views and not be complacent.
“We welcome the review proposed by NICE and feel that early detection and careful monitoring of a suspected or actual brain injury is crucial to patients’ wellbeing,” says Sally Dunscombe, founder of the Brain Injury Group. “We believe hospitals should routinely scan anyone with a head injury to rule out brain damage rather than wait for symptoms to develop before taking a closer look. By the time symptoms appear, it’s often too late,” she warns. “I urge stakeholders not to be complacent or leave the comments to others. Please share your views to bring about these essential changes.”
Stakeholder organisations can register an interest in the guidelines here. Comments from the public must come via a stakeholder organisation.
