Every profession has its jargon, and unless you’re on the inside, the terminology can be overwhelming.  Dealing with the impact of a complex injury, the chances are that individuals and families will find themselves confused by acronyms and terms from two professions – medical and legal.

To help the thousands of people that visit our website each year we’ve added a couple of glossaries that offer simple definitions in layman’s terms for some of the most commonly used references in brain injury matters, one from a legal perspective, one from a clinical perspective.

Primarily intended for people who are being introduced to terms and acronyms that they’ve probably not had to think about before, we hope that the glossaries will also prove useful for those health and social care professionals trying to respond to queries from their patients and clients, and for legal professionals supporting people in the aftermath of a catastrophic injury.

We plan to add another glossary that looks at the many professionals – again, clinical and legal – that someone affected by brain injury might encounter along their rehabilitation route too.
