For many families of people with life-changing injury, the end of litigation does not signal the end of the journey.
Years of caring, rehabilitation, appointments and legal proceedings can leave parents, partners and others involved emotionally exhausted, with little opportunity to acknowledge what they themselves have experienced.
While there is an extensive evidence base supporting multidisciplinary rehabilitation for the injured person, there is growing recognition that supporting those around them is also fundamental to successful long-term outcomes.
Chroma and Hobbs Rehabilitation have launched a series of Post-Litigation RESET Retreats for families, friends, partners and carers of people who have experienced life-changing injury.
The five-day retreats will be hosted at Chedington Estate, Dorset, from later this year into 2027.
Who Are Chroma and Hobbs Rehabilitation?
Chroma is a therapy organisation providing services across the UK. Based on evidence and clinical research, its team offers Neurologic Music TherapyĀ®, art psychotherapy and other therapeutic approaches to support individuals and families. Chroma works in partnership with NHS and private healthcare organisations.
Hobbs Rehabilitation is a specialist rehabilitation provider in the south of England, with expertise in neurological and amputee physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and clinical neuropsychology. Its work spans specialist rehabilitation for people with a range of neurological conditions and injuries, amputations and polytrauma, including acquired brain injury.
Together, the organisations bring clinical rehabilitation expertise and creative therapeutic approaches to a retreat specifically designed for those supporting someone after a life-changing injury.
The Journey After Litigation
The end of a legal case offers a sense of resolution for a lot of families, but it can also leave them facing the emotional impact of everything they have gone through.
The needs of the injured person understandably remain central in recovery, but recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.
Those closest to them often play a vital role in providing practical and emotional support while simultaneously adapting to major changes in their own relationships, routines and lives.
Chromaās RESET Retreats provide a therapist-led space for family members and close connections of the injured individual to pause and reflect, reconnect with themselves and others and consider what comes next. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in evidence-based therapeutic activities like art therapy, spend time in nature, and connect with people who have experienced similar challenges.
The retreats are not about revisiting the legal process or providing intensive psychotherapy. Instead, they are designed to support the people who have carried much of the emotional and practical weight surrounding rehabilitation, recognising thatĀ investing in the wellbeing of the wider familyĀ can also contribute to the long-term rehabilitation of the injured person.
Rather than being conceived as a wellbeing break, Chroma’s therapist-led RESET Retreats have therefore been developed as structured family rehabilitation interventions, informed by established evidence from neurorehabilitation, trauma-informed care, creative arts therapies and post-traumatic growth.
From Reflection to Recovery: The RESET Model
The RESET model is the therapeutic framework underpinning each of Chromaās retreats:
- Reflect ā Where are we now? Taking time to acknowledge the journey, its challenges and its achievements.
- Explore ā What has this experience meant? Making sense of change, identity and the future.
- Strengthen ā Ourselves and each other. Rebuilding resilience, communication and supportive relationships.
- Empower ā Rediscovering confidence, choice and a sense of agency beyond rehabilitation and litigation.
- Thrive ā Looking beyond survival towards a fulfilling, meaningful future.
Through trauma-informed creative arts therapies, supported reflection, time in nature and opportunities for genuine rest and reconnection, the retreats create a safe space to pause, reset and move forward.
The aim is not simply to provide a break from everyday responsibilities, but to help participants recognise their own experiences, strengthen their relationships and consider the possibilities of life beyond the intensity of rehabilitation and legal proceedings.
