Every November Brake, the Road Safety Charity, hold their road safety week, to raise awareness of the dangers our roads pose and to educate people so that we each are able to make safe and healthy journeys every day.

The theme for 2022 is Safe Roads for All, perhaps a timely topic with the increasing use of e-scooters, electric cars and just on the horizon, driverless cars. It also falls in the year that the Government introduced changes to the Highway Code, introducing a hierarchy of road users which ranks them in order of those who are most at risk in the event of a road traffic collision – at the top of the group are pedestrians, followed by cyclists, horse riders, motorcyclists, cars and taxis, vans and minibuses and finally large passenger vehicles and HGVs.

The Brake website features lots of resources, lesson plans and information about why we need safe roads for all, drawing attention to key areas of road safety, including safe roads, safe vehicles and speeds and the importance of inclusivity to keep us all safe on the roads – every life on our roads matters and every death and injury is preventable.

Brain Injury Group road safety week activities

Once again, this year we are inviting children from across the UK to enter our poster competition. The competition closes on Thursday 17 November, during road safety week, and we will be choosing winners and announcing details in our social media on Friday 18 November.

We have added lots of resources on our website which you can print for your children at home, including:

Resources are aimed at primary school age children.

How to enter our competition

To enter our competition, your child can select one of the above templates from our website and colour it in, to their design, or they can start from scratch and design their own favourite way to travel, be that car, space rocket, submarine, or unicorn!

Once posters are complete, simply send a copy to clare.harrison@braininjurygroup.co.uk including your child’s name and age. Winners will be contacted via email on Friday 18 November so we can arrange delivery of prizes.

And now for the small print – although you can enter from all over the World, we will only post prizes to addresses in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales and by submitting an entry, you are agreeing that we can publish your child’s poster, first name and age on our website and within social media.
