A three year old girl in Hawaii has suffered brain damage after visiting the dentist for a root canal, and going into cardiac arrest.

Finlay Boyle, 3, was taken to the Island Dentistry for Children in Oahu, Hawaii last week by her mother Ashley. It is alleged that she may have been given too much anaesthesia as a sedative for her root canal, causing her to go into cardiac arrest. An MRI scan confirmed that she has suffered severe brain damage. While friends of the family have reported that Finlay has since been able to open and close her eyes and breathe unaided, it is a tragic turn of events for her family, who have now hired an attorney.

At this stage is unknown if Finlay had any pre-existing medical conditions that could potentially have complicated the surgery.
