Legal advice clinic for carers comes to Liverpool on Friday 12 June as part of Carers Week 2015
Lees Solicitors – a long-established law firm with offices across the Wirral serving the whole of Merseyside – is showing its support for carers by offering a free drop-in legal advice clinic at a major event on Friday 12 June. Part of Carers Week (8-14 June 2015), the event takes place in St George’s Hall, William Brown Street, Liverpool L1 1JJ from 10.30am until 3.00pm. People are welcome to drop in for free, no obligation legal and practical advice to help them with their particular circumstances.
Lees Solicitors is a member of the Brain Injury Group (www.braininjurygroup.co.uk) which provides a gateway to specialist support services for people affected by brain injury and offers signposting to welfare and benefits advice, statutory funding advice, and specialist support groups where people can meet others in a similar situation.
“No one would choose to have an accident or to suffer ill health to the point that they are unable to manage their own affairs, but we appreciate that family members often have to step up to the challenge of caring for an injured loved one,” says Jane MacGregor, partner and Court of Protection specialist at Lees, who will be available to talk to carers on the day. “The role of a carer is demanding, and something like a brain injury can present different issues for an entire family. Often help is available, but knowing where to look for or how to access that help might not always be obvious,” she explains. “Whether or not we’re pursuing a claim to secure funding for ongoing medical support, we work in the best interests of the whole family and can advise carers about the opportunities and options that may be available to help them.”
Carers Week is an annual awareness week co-ordinated by Carers UK to recognise the contribution of the UK’s estimated 6.5 million carers. Without support, those carers often face health, financial and emotional problems themselves.
“Like all our member firms, Lees are inevitably involved with carers as well as those individuals suffering from a brain injury,” says Sally Dunscombe, co-founder and director of the Brain Injury Group. “Brain injuries can have a devastating effect on a family, and it’s vital that people receive the right legal advice and support services to help them manage the years ahead. Our members work hard to secure fair compensation to support carers in their work.”
