PEEPS HIE Charity

The organisation is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those affected by H.I.E. (Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy), a condition caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain at birth. It provides free emotional, practical, and financial support to families, regardless of cause or outcome. The charity also supplies free parent packs to neonatal units across the UK, offering families support and guidance when they feel ready to receive it.

In addition, the charity provides a range of support services, including:

Parent Support: Free packs for neonatal units and specialist healthcare providers, designed by parents for parents. These offer gentle information, reassurance that families are not alone, and practical items to support them on their journey.

Online Resources: An accessible website, including an accessibility toolbar, alongside social media platforms that share information and provide signposting to further support.

Peer Support: One-to-one support from volunteers, parents, and grandparents who all have lived experience of H.I.E.

Community Activities: Regular online events held at different times and covering a variety of topics, including “Let’s Chat” sessions.

Family Connections: The “Little HIEroes” private Facebook group and WhatsApp community for families, alongside separate dedicated groups for fathers and bereaved families.

Events: Support during key events and information sessions, including topics such as Advanced Care Plans, sibling support sessions, and understanding trauma.

In-Person Support: “Peeps Together” events held across the UK in fully accessible venues.

Equipment Fund: Support for families in accessing essential equipment that may not otherwise be available, with an application process based on need rather than means testing.
