Issue 7 of Brain Injury News is available online and in print and looks at how a brain injury affects so many more people than the individual concerned ā and what can be
done to support families.
Leading neuropsychologist Jo Johnson contributed our lead article and offers advice on how families can be helped to deal with change and adapt to the ānew normalā. In similar vein, Recolo UK consider that a āresilientā family looks like, and how resilience can inform support and improve recovery.
We take a look at issues to consider in respect of family finances, and consider the benefits of appointing an independent deputy to help manage financial or health and welfare issues with the help of Brain Injury Group members Wolferstans and Novum Law respectively.
The Childrenās Trust rehabilitation unit is an amazing facility which many of you will be familiar with. Their article describes how they support and include families in recovery and rehabilitation, and includes a case study about twin girls. Carers Trust offers up some disturbing statistics about the number of young carers who are effectively denied a normal childhood by their caring responsibilities.
And finally we have a first-hand account from a remarkable young man who is recovering from a brain injury. Paul Spence, an ambassador for member firm Hudgell Solicitors, describes how his injury affected his own family, and how he is adapting to his post-injury life. Itās quite a tale.

Brain Injury News is published twice a year. Its aim is to share experience, professional expertise and best practice across the sector and whilst it was launched specifically with health and social care professionals in mind, it is just as accessible and relevant to the families and carers of brain injured individuals.
